Savings Tourism Barometer Germany: Destination Germany very popular with tourists in 2008

Germany is still very popular with holidaymakers. With almost 340 million overnight stays annually, Germany is the most popular destination in Europe after Spain. By international comparison, Germany but recorded a below average growth. While the number of travelers worldwide by more than 6 percent to 898 million, up a new record was achieved, remains the growth in Germany with about 4 percent lower than the world level. These results, the Savings Bank is Germany Tourism Barometer 2008 of the German Savings Banks Association.
“To remain competitive, continued investment in infrastructure and tourism products and innovative concepts for tourism in Germany is of central importance,” said Dr. Karl-Peter Schackmann-Fallis, Executive Member of the German Savings Banks Association, at the presentation Tourism barometer of the Savings Bank in Berlin. “At the same time strengthen the important domestic market, opening up new markets abroad and the image of Germany as an attractive country to be sharpened internationally,” said Schackmann-Fallis. The relatively weak sales, a small business size by international standards, but especially the comparatively small investment joy slow the momentum of the German tourism industry.
Savings banks and regional banks to support local tourism businesses are important advisory and financing partners. In 2007 alone, savings banks and regional banks have given € 11 billion credit to the hospitality industry. The market share will amount to 50 percent.
Goal of the Sparkassen-Germany Tourism Barometer is a positioning of Germany in international tourism and national comparison. To the European tourism destination index was developed, a comprehensive system of indicators to measure the competitiveness of the German tourism industry. The barometer provides information on the economic importance of tourism, tourism development will be analyzed in comparison to competitors and develops useful suggestions and recommendations for the actors involved in tourism.
